As the Sun starts beating down on us all please see this advice from Wendy on how to stay cool
Following the recent heat wave some weeks ago, where we saw record temperatures in the UK, it appears we are in for some more warm weather throughout the remainder of this week. Whilst we are unlikely to see the kind of temperatures we saw during July, it is forecast to hit temperatures that are unusually high for the UK and once again we should prepare ourselves.
For anyone having to work outside or undertaking more physical roles, please ensure you are taking necessary measures to keep yourselves safe and well. This should include:-
- Taking regular breaks where necessary
- Ensuring you have access to plenty of water/fluids and keeping yourselves hydrated
- Wearing loose and light clothing. Whilst I would ordinarily discourage wearing shorts in the workplace I believe we need to take a common sense approach and therefore our stance in this area is relaxed during this period. I would however, please ask that overalls are worn from a H&S perspective where appropriate. Please ensure you keep yourselves safe!
- Wearing safety sunglasses to protect your eyes
- If you are working outside, please try to find a shaded area to work – move machines or position vans (where-ever possible) to reduce exposure to the sun
- Ensure you are regularly applying appropriate sun creams
- Wearing caps/hats where other PPE (i.e. Hardhats) are not required
I fully appreciate that some of our team could be facing some very difficult and uncomfortable working conditions over the next few days. Please, let’s look out for each other and keep each other safe – during the time and keeping the job going.
Many thanks in advance for your support.
